-Nearby-

The nearby village of San Martín can be discovered by a short, spontaneous walk, and you could even go to the viewpoint called Mirador de Pico Halcón, or to the Tio Facio a hundred year old chestnut tree, or promenade along the old threshing lands. Fuentegrande and El Codorro with their beautiful views, will take a little longer, as will the view of the Peña de Francia mountain (Rock of France) from El Resollano. Or you might prefer the plains and stroll among the oaks and grazing patches of the Prados del Horno; and you can go on another three or four kilometres to see the remains of Cargamancos, San Miguel’s original settlement, and the vulture nests. If you’re travelling with children, there’s a small recreation area in the village, another one at Roblegordo (with a hollow trunk almost the size of a small hut for the children to get into) with the Cucharero pond. La Piñuela recreation area is not very far either.
And you won’t need much more if you choose to remain in any of the corners in Jardines del Robledo reading or listening to some music… or to the silence, as you watch the views: there must be some reason why the area has recently been declared a Biosphere Reserve!

San Marín del Castañar

-Proximities-

One of the main attractions of the area, apart from the scenery, is the Network of Historical Sets (5 in total) within 30 kms: San Martín del Castañar, La Alberca, Mogarraz, Miranda del Castañar and Sequeros.
There are more spots deserving to be seen in Villanueva del Conde, Garcibuey, Cepeda, Monforte…
When you go up to the Peña de Francia viewpoint you can also get to Monsagro, across the Paso de los Lobos (Wolf Pass)
Batuecas is a valley peaceful enough for you to leave the car there and explore a bit, starting from its Monasterio, and stroll upriver, following the glasslike small stream as far as you wish. When you come back via Sotoserrano, you can take a dramatic snap of the Rio Alagón meanders from Riomalo de Abajo.
Aside from Batuecas, there are more trekking options: marked routes for the Asentadero de los Curas, Camino del Pontón or the Roman mines of Las Cavenes.
The house at Parque de Batuecas organizes activities from time to time, as do the different Interpretation Centres of the area, as the León Felipe Theatre in Sequeros, just 3 kms away.

-Somewhat further-

If you don’t mind driving, for the time it would take to be stuck in a traffic jam in Madrid you can get to Béjar and Candelario or to the ski resort of La Covatilla. The Jewish Quarter at Hervás, the rebuilt village of Granadilla or Montemayor del Rio deserve a day too, as do, southwards, the steep landscapes of Las Hurdes, with the El Gasco waterfall, not to forget again the meanders of the Alagón river.
Ciudad Rodrigo lies to the west, and if you dare to cross the frontier up to the walled Portuguese village of Almeida you can indulge in a good bacalhau (cod).
The west area is not just meadows dotted with holm oaks where wild bulls frolick in their natural habitat: let us not forget the Arribes cliffs, or the Castros (prehistoric Celtic dwellings) route in Yecla de Yeltes, Saldeana, Las Merchanas… To the North, the Quilama mountains with the Cervero and the Honfría; and of course, that heritage of mankind Salamanca!

When you are among us we’ll be able to tell you more about these options in detail, as well as where and what to eat, to buy, etc.
